Site Monetization with Google AdSense

I've recently started using Google AdSense as a monetization channel on several on my "pure content" websites, and have been surprisingly pleased with the results.

As you probably know, webmasters can sign up for free to display Google Ads on their web pages, and also can install the Google Search Box on their site. I've been meaning to do both for quite some time, but only recently got around to it.

Signing up took only a few minutes, and figuring out how things worked took only a few more minutes. In less than an hour, I had ads appearing on some of my pages, and with three or four hours work, I had ads and search boxes on most of the pages of four different websites I operate.

Most of that time was spent adding the code to the web site pages ... the process at the AdSense site took a very short while.

What surprised me was the results. While I've only had the ads displayed for a less than two weeks, I'm averaging almost $3 per day in click revenue. Some days I make only a few pennies, and some days I've made up to around $7.

This is *pure additional profit* for me, since the sites I'm referring to don't generate a lot of sales directly. At least some of the people who are now clicking on the AdSense links were previously leaving my site without generating any revenue for me.

I would imagine some people are concerned that the AdSense ads are somehow a distraction for their site visitors, and potentially siphoning off sales. I'm inclined not to think so, for the simple reason that if someone wants to buy what I'm selling, they're going to, rather than click through a PPC ad they see on my site.

I don't keep regular sales statistics, but I don't have the feeling my sales have dropped off at all since I incorporated the AdSense ads. In fact, this past week was one of my better sales weeks in a while.

If people are looking to see what the competition has for sale, more power to them. I'd rather they do that first, so that if they come back and buy from me, they will be happy customers who feel like they've done their homework. If they buy from the competitor, at least I made a little on their click.

I've also recently come across a new ebook that is a *must read* for people who are serious about maximizing their AdSense revenue. I bought this ebook a few weeks back, just after signing up with AdSense, and I feel I learned things worth well more than the cost of the book.

Google AdSense Secrets gives you all kinds of tips, tricks, and pointers about how to utilize the features built into the program to maximize your revenue. I'll probably do a review of the ebook on my ebook review blog soon, but it's worth mentioning here, too, because it is such a helpful resource.

If you haven't tried AdSense, give it some serious thought. And if you already use it, but aren't happy with your results, check out the ebook mentioned above.
